Drostanolone, also known as Masteron, is an anabolic steroid that has a moderate anabolic effect and a high androgenic effect. It is not converted into estrogens in the body and can even act as a mild aromatase inhibitor. This steroid has a similar biological effect to dihydrotestosterone because it is derived from this hormone.
In medicine, Drostanolone is used to treat breast cancer in women, but due to the high risk of virilization, it is rarely used. The drug is not susceptible to aromatase, so it cannot be converted to estradiol.
Drostanolone has a good affinity for androgen receptors in muscles, the prostate, and scalp, which may result in side effects such as baldness, prostate enlargement, and body hair growth. However, as a derivative of DHT, it inhibits estradiol activity in tissues and indirectly exhibits antiestrogenic effects.
Athletes use Drostanolone for its psychological effects, including increased "motivational drive" during training, which is especially popular during cutting diets. This steroid does not cause fluid retention and has a mild diuretic effect, which improves muscle definition. It is commonly used before competitions to increase muscle hardness and density, as well as to achieve a ripped athletic form due to its fat-burning effect. Drostanolone cycles can reduce fat mass by 5-10% from the initial state.
Drostanolone has a lower anabolic index than testosterone, which makes it effective for burning fat but also increases the risk of androgenic side effects such as aggression, acne, baldness, prostate hypertrophy, and virilization in women.
